1. A Brief Introduction to JU
Set up in the year of 1960. Jiangsu University (JU) is now ranked as one of the key multi-disciplinary institutions of higher learning in China. It is located in the city of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, China. The city of Zhenjiang has a long history and rich cultural heritage and stands on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in the middle of the Yangtze River Delta Economic Belt.
At present, the total number of student enrollment is 15, 000. The 14 colleges and departments of JUST are offering 27 bachelors programs, 23 master` s programs, 6 doctoral programs and three post-doctoral programs. JUST occupies a total land area of 100 hectares and a total floor space of 340,000 square meters.
JUST started to accept foreign students in 1980. Thanks to the rapid development of JUST in the past few years, it has made its name known to more and more oversea people. As a result, there has been a sharp increase in the number of foreign students applying to study at JUST in recent years. Almost all the colleges and departments are now accessible to foreign students.
Chinese Language Learning Center is an organization established for the sole purpose of catering to the need of foreigners interested in learning Chinese. Courses offered include spoken Chinese, listening comprehension, Chinese ABC and intermediate Chinese. Apart from Chinese language learning, courses covering fields of science and liberal arts are also available at JUST.
Placed in a quiet and secluded environment and equipped with all the facilities necessary for study and daily life, JUST is an ideal location for learning. Besides, it has a team of well-knowledged professionals who are well experienced and fully devoted to teaching their students by combining theory with practice. With the experience gained from their teaching over the years, they know how to help their students with different background to get the best result of their language learning in the shortest possible time.
JUST always encourages cultural and academic exchanges with people of other countries. Therefore, overseas students are warmly welcome to study at JUST
2. Students Classifications
A. Language Students
a). Long-term students
They, who expect to come and study for a whole term and above, can register in either February or September each year. They will be allocated to different classes for Chinese language lessons based on the results of their performance in a test held shortly after their arrival at JUST.
b) Short-term students
They, who expect to come and study for less than a term in length.
A. Non-language students
They, who expect to come and study science and liberal arts for a term and above, have to study three courses at least for each term.

B. Research fellows
Foreign experts come to JUST to conduct research projects
D. Students working for degrees
They, who expect to come and study for degrees, have to complete all the courses required before degrees are granted in accordance with the regulations issued regarding degree awarding.
2.1 Qualifications One Should Possess in Applying for Learning at JUST
a) Observe Chinese laws and regulations as well as rules by JUST. Respect Chinese customs and tradition.
b) Be in good health
c) For research fellows, there is no age limit.
d) For undergraduates, the age limit is 30 and below.
e) For post graduates, the age limit is 40 and below
f) For doctoral candidates, the age limit is 45 and below.
2.2 Admission Procedures
A. Language as well as non- language students wishing to study at JUST are expected to do as follows
a) to fill in Application form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China,
b) to submit two letters of recommendation (a detailed research plan by a research fellow), short-term students exclusive.
c) a registration fee of 20 USD is required
A month after the receipt of the above mentioned papers, a n application will receive a reply from the Foreign Affairs Office of JUST as to whether pr not his/her application has been accepted.
B. Students wishing to work for degrees at JUST are expected to do as follows;
a) to fill in Application for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China
b) Two letters of recommendation, each written by a different professor
c) Student Records and diplomas
d) HSK scores ( nationalized Chinese language examination for foreigners )
e) a registration fee of 20USD is required for undergraduates education
f) a registration fee of 30 USD is required for post graduate education
g) a registration fee of 40 USD is required for doctoral education.
All the above mentioned papers should be sent to the Foreign Affair Office of JUST before October and one month after the receipt of the papers, a reply from the office will be given to an applicant as to whether or not his/her application has been accepted.
Once accepted, prospective students are required
a) to fill in ``JW 202 Form``
b) to submit a health certificate
c) to submit the original copies of HIV test and VD test
Prospective students are required to register with their ``admission Notice`` within the period of time mentioned on the notice. No registration exceeding the time limit is accepted.
2.3 Accommodations
JUST provides foreign students with dormitories equipped with such daily necessities as toilet room, kitchen, air conditioning and telephone. There is a canteen for foreign students to use .
2.4 Holiday Arrangements
The Overseas Students Department will arrange visits and recreational activities for long-term students. As for short-term students, the Foreign Affairs Office will arrange visits and recreational activities twice a month. If requested, JUST can also arrange self-paid visits during summer and winter holidays or at the finish of their studies here.
2.5 Fees
a) For short-term students
--Enrollment fee: 15 USD
--Accommodation: 5.5-8 USD per bed a day
--Tuition: 180USD for two weeks, 250USD for three weeks, 310USD for a month
After one-month study, 60 USD a week; After two-month study,
40 USD a week.
b) For long-term students
--Enrollment fee: 15USD
--Accommodation: 5.5 ----8 USD per bed a day
-- Tuition: 1800USD per year for undergraduate
2000USD per year for research fellows
2500USD per year for post graduate
